Thank you so much for sharing. I am a mother looking to help my questioning teenage son NOT get entrenched in transitioning until/unless he has really been able to work through and identify the source of his social/psychological discomfort. I fear my voice will not reach him before he has done permanent damage to his body. It hurts my heart to hear what transpired for you, and I hope for good days ahead for you where you can feel comfortable and confident in your own skin.

This was gut-wrenching and amazing. Your story and the broader story needs to be told. I know it’s awful to put pressure on people who suffered/are suffering from the monstrous recklessness of clinicians, or to tether you to a phase of your life that you need to move on from, but we all have to bear witness to this dark period. This can neither be allowed to continue nor be forgotten. The surgeons and the therapists and the endocrinologists, the AAP and WPATH — they cannot be allowed to just slink back to their former lives. There is hell to pay.

Your treatment by the clinicians sounds almost criminal. Have you informed them of your detransition and disillusionment of the gender dysphoria treatment pathway?

Thank you for sharing your story. You seem to allude to mtf who regret transitioning are more likely to commit suicide. Horrific, but important for people to know. Do you know of any statistics or studies on this? I think that any facility that provides transition services should be legally bound to follow up with all patients and to provide full services for all those who detransition - as well as keep and report statistics yearly, to be made public. They should not be allowed to just ignore folk who want to detransition. This would make it publicly available which clinics had higher rates of regret and detransitioning. I bet the screening process would become more rigourous.

I'm beyond shocked and angry that the medical "professionals" coerced you this way. Expressing any doubt should have been a massive red flag for them - the fact it wasn't should be grounds for malpractice in itself?

Threatening to discharge you while you were feeling vulnerable, unless you had surgery - WTF? Like for them successful outcome = surgery, rather than "hey, I feel feel fine now, you've helped me feel comfortable with myself, and thank you but I no longer need your services".

I really hope Hilary Cass has taken note of your case in completing her gender care review.

I think I understand how you feel, in my case it was laser eye surgery complications, but that feeling of utter black despair when you're told what's happened is irreversible and permanent, I recognise it. Back then (15 years ago now!) I was feeling too stupid, weak and broken to do anything to fix the system. So I'm full of admiration for you, and hope that speaking out and helping others is giving your life meaning and and is a source of comfort. And I've found the black emotions do get better :-)
