Oh my god I cried as I read this. My son has claimed a trans identification and it breaks my heart as I watch him helplessly dig himself into a dark hole. I desperately hope I can wake him up from this nightmare..

I don’t know if this will be helpful or not but my mom just finished reading a book called The masks of masculinity by Lewis Howes. She said it was an excellent book and it is now on my reading list. Maybe you will find something in this nook to help you navigate your journey to manhood.

Each personal story sheds a light on this mysterious development in human history. I know there were gender non-conforming individuals in the past but the current ubiquity of drugs and surgery for minors is new.
We’ve done a real disservice to our boys by eliminating ‘archaic’ initiation rituals in a Western (especially predominantly WASP-y) culture which when combined with the higher rates of fatherlessness leaves boys trying to figure out themselves how to become men with only their peers who are as lost as they are to help. It leaves most vulnerable to nefarious figures who wish to exploit that vulnerability (from warlords to separatists/terrorist groups to crime gangs and organisations to pedophiles and other sexually driven exploiters). Now there’s an option to opt out all together and be a ‘woman’.
Women have a fairly straightforward and biologically driven initiation to Womanhood, menarche. By dismantling ‘patriarchal’ initiation for Manhood, the unintended consequences is now multiple generations of Lost Boys.
Thank you. My son is trans, talking about hormone therapy, hating his voice, Adams apple, leg hairs. He claims to be a lesbian. But this kid is so very masculine, it's hard to see him as feeling like he should be a girl. This came up suddenly. Reading your story is helping me, thank you. I'm so afraid he'll make choices he'll later regret.
You are such a lovely man. I asked a detrans male friend of mine, after he was profiled in a national publication, if any gay men had reached out to him. Apparently not one had. It breaks my heart and makes me angry that no men, gay or otherwise, are stepping up on this issue in particular. Women do more naturally reach out to each other, though as you know there are issues with that as well. People shy away from complicated stories.
I love that you started a discord site. Discord was, I believe, one of the introductory sites for my son. He announced his new identity to us and n May. Has not made any new progress, since his dad and I refer to him as his birth/real name. Thank you for the awareness you bring to this.
